Control who can see you

Start with the privacy settings, not the profile. Decide how visible you want to be before you upload a single photo.

• •Blur your photos until you choose to release them
• •Turn on private mode so only people you like can see you
• •Browse incognito so viewing a profile sends no signal
• •Hide from contacts by uploading numbers you want blocked

Before you meet

Move slowly enough to see inconsistencies. A short video call before meeting removes almost all remaining risk of misrepresentation, even with verification in place.

• •Video call once before meeting in person
• •Meet in a busy public place, in daylight if possible
• •Arrange your own transport, both ways
• •Tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to be back
• •Keep your phone charged and your location shared with someone you trust

Warning signs

Trust the pattern, not the excuse. Any single one of these can be innocent; two or more together rarely are.

• •Pushing to move to another app immediately
• •Refusing a video call while insisting on meeting privately
• •Any mention of money, crypto, gift cards or investments
• •Pressure to send intimate images, especially early
• •Anger when you set a boundary

Sextortion and image abuse

If someone threatens to share intimate images of you, do not pay. Screenshot the threat, report the profile, block it, and contact your local police or a specialist helpline. Paying almost always leads to further demands.

In an emergency

If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number first. Report the profile to us afterwards; we can preserve account data and messages for a law enforcement request.
